Originally described as Gladiolus refractus by Jacquin (Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin, 1727–1817, the great Viennese botanist) in 1795; transferred to Freesia by Klatt. Produces yellow to white, highly fragrant funnel-shaped flowers.
