Originally described by Lindley (John Lindley, 1799–1865, great English botanist) as an Amaryllis, transferred to Hippeastrum by Hooker filius (Joseph Dalton Hooker, 1817–1911, director of Kew). Produces elegant, typically white to pale pink funnel-shaped flowers.
