Described by Linnaeus (1753). Produces elegant, pincushion-like, pale lilac-blue flowerheads on long, slender, wiry stems to 70 cm. An outstanding butterfly and moth plant. Full sun; well-drained, dry, calcareous soils; cool temperate conditions; cold-hardy; drought-tolerant.
